A start-up specializing in drone charging has formed an agreement with a local council to investigate suitable locations for its infrastructure. AeroGrid, a company located in Hertfordshire, and West Northamptonshire Council have formalized their collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This MoU aims to pinpoint appropriate sites for drone charging stations across the council’s various properties. Possible locations for these charging points encompass the rooftops of buildings owned by the council, as well as open fields and other public areas. Leon Emirali, who serves as AeroGrid’s chief executive and founder, stated: “West Northamptonshire is full of opportunity to become a leading hub of commercial drone transport and we envisage huge growth opportunities for the region.” The Memorandum of Understanding indicates that West Northamptonshire Council is “open to exploring the possibility of AeroGrid utilising its properties and land for the placement and operation of drone charging infrastructure”. Mr. Emirali explained that the company selected this region due to its close proximity to current and prospective fulfilment and logistics hubs, which are anticipated to play a crucial role in the future of drone deliveries. The founder of the firm further estimated that commercial drone delivery across the UK could be implemented “within two years”. Daniel Lister, the Conservative cabinet member for local economy, culture, and leisure at West Northamptonshire Council, commented: “[The local authority] is pleased to explore this opportunity with AeroGrid. “This agreement aligns with our commitment to sustainable growth and innovation, ensuring West Northamptonshire is at the forefront of technological advancements that bring tangible benefits to our residents and economy.””
