A town situated in Worcestershire recently observed a dedicated day to honor a local figure who achieved historical significance as one of the Pilgrim Fathers. Edward Winslow, born in Droitwich Spa in 1595, was among the initial English individuals to journey to America during the 17th Century. He was recognized during the town’s inaugural Edward Winslow Day on Thursday, a date that coincided with the United States’ Thanksgiving celebration. The day’s events featured the raising of the US flag outside the town council building. Live music, food, and various exhibitions were presented, illustrating the narrative of the Mayflower voyage. Alex Sinton, the mayor of Droitwich, described the day as exceptionally successful. “We are so very proud of our heritage,” he stated. He further added, “I think it’ll grow from this – this is the first attempt, and it’s been great.” For further updates, connect with BBC Hereford & Worcester on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram.
