A doorbell camera recorded the moment a cockapoo was stolen from a driveway. Police were notified about the dog’s theft in Harlow Way, Ashbourne, at approximately 15:20 GMT on Tuesday. The doorbell camera footage, provided by the family’s next-door neighbor, depicted a man taking Alan, a three-year-old cockapoo, at 11:00. Law enforcement officials stated they are “following several lines of inquiry” and verified that no arrests have occurred. Holly Bryan, 27, the cousin of Alan’s owner, was at the Harlow Way residence when the dog vanished. Ms. Bryan stated that Alan, wearing an extendable lead, was tied to a post on her cousin’s driveway to “have a walk around” because work was being performed in the back garden. She reported, “After leaving him outside for 30 minutes, I went to get him back in for a bath, and he was gone.” “We originally thought Alan just ran off, and we thought someone would see him and find him.” Ms. Bryan stated she requested her cousin’s next-door neighbor to review their doorbell camera footage to ascertain Alan’s whereabouts, leading to her discovery that Alan had been taken. Soon after, Ms. Bryan shared the doorbell footage on Facebook and informed the police of the theft. Ms. Bryan expressed, “My heart sank, I can’t believe in broad daylight, on a Tuesday morning, he would be taken.” Given that Alan is a pure-bred cockapoo and unneutered, Ms. Bryan suspects he was abducted for breeding purposes. Ms. Bryan commented, “Alan is so friendly and loving, he was probably quite happy to go with the person that took him.” She added, “My cousin is beyond himself at the minute, Alan is such a joy to be around; it’s such a loss that he’s gone.” “We are not bothered about who you are or what’s happened, we just want Alan back. It’s disgusting and the lowest of the low.” Follow BBC Derby on Facebook, on X, or on Instagram. Send your story ideas to eastmidsnews@bbc.co.uk or via WhatsApp on 0808 100 2210. Copyright 2024 BBC.
