An individual has confessed to being responsible for the death of a woman who lost her life in a collision that occurred during a police chase. Amber Deakin, aged 18, passed away following the crash of a Vauxhall Vectra, operated by Jordan Spalding, on Baildon Road, close to Pasture Road, in Bradford on 3 January 2023. Spalding, 24 years old, and his co-defendant, Shakeel Ahmed, 28 years old, appeared for the first time at Bradford Crown Court on Thursday, facing charges of causing death by dangerous driving. Spalding, residing at Wharncliffe Crescent, entered a guilty plea. Mr Ahmed was not required to submit a plea at this time. The court was informed that Spalding understood a significant prison sentence was unavoidable, but his sentencing could not proceed until the legal proceedings involving his co-defendant were concluded. Judge Jonathan Rose, the Recorder of Bradford, scheduled a provisional trial date for Mr Ahmed for 4 April next year. Judge Rose informed Spalding that his driving disqualification was effective immediately and reiterated that a considerable term of imprisonment was the only outcome. Both Spalding and Mr Ahmed, who resides on Moresby Road, had their conditional release on bail prolonged. Mr Ahmed was notified that his subsequent court appearance is scheduled for 28 February 2025.
