An individual has received a prison sentence after initiating a fight outside a premises and subsequently striking a student with a vehicle. Mohammed Alam initiated an altercation on Talbot Street in Nottingham, involving both members of the public and security personnel from Rock City. Shortly thereafter, under the impression that a group of pedestrians had participated in the violence, he intentionally drove his car towards them, hitting one person. Mohammed Alam, residing at Pembridge Close, Basford, admitted guilt to charges of affray, inflicting grievous bodily harm, and dangerous driving. He was sentenced to two years and 10 months in prison at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday. Testimony presented in court indicated that Mohammed Alam was operating a vehicle around 02:45 BST on 7 October 2023 when an individual within the departing crowd from the venue signaled for him to reduce speed and then tapped his car roof in irritation. Mohammed Alam, aged 26, exited the vehicle accompanied by his 29-year-old brother Parvaz Alam and another individual. CCTV footage captured him pushing the person, which initiated a confrontation. Subsequently, Mohammed Alam and his brother re-entered the car. While driving away from the location on Goldsmith Street, he steered his vehicle onto the pavement, directing it towards a group he presumed had been part of the earlier altercation. Most individuals managed to evade the vehicle, but one person was struck and propelled into the air, sustaining a deep laceration to their leg that necessitated surgical intervention and a skin graft. Both brothers were apprehended after an officer from Nottinghamshire Police identified Mohammed Alam from surveillance camera footage. His elder brother, residing at the identical address, admitted guilt to affray and received a community order mandating 200 hours of unpaid work. Additionally, he is required to pay £500 in compensation. Detective Constable Madeline Flint-Foster, who headed the inquiry, stated: “Mohammed Alam’s actions that night were extremely reckless and have had a profound impact on his victim.” She added: “It is just by pure luck that no-one was killed.” For further engagement, BBC Nottingham can be followed on Facebook, X, or Instagram.
