An individual who recorded footage at the site of a deadly collision has incurred a fine and received penalty points on his driver’s license. Kevin Doherty’s death occurred in June following a collision involving his motorcycle, a car, and a van on the A14 westbound carriageway, specifically at Sproughton, close to Ipswich. Video of the incident was disseminated across social media platforms. Subsequently, Arturas Motuzis, 38, residing at Belstead Avenue, Ipswich, faced charges for transmitting an offensive/indecent/obscene message/matter via a public communication network, in addition to operating a mobile phone while driving. On Thursday, Ipswich Magistrates’ Court imposed a fine of £1,345 on him, along with six penalty points on his driving licence. Motuzis admitted guilt to both charges. PC Thomas Ives of Suffolk Police characterized Motuzis’s conduct as “unspeakable.” He stated, “Not only is using a mobile phone whilst driving an offence, but it is also utterly disrespectful to anyone involved in the sensitive and traumatic incident.” He further urged, “We ask that people abide by the law, which is there to protect them, and refrain from using their phones whilst behind the wheel of their vehicle.” Mr. Doherty, aged 44, hailed from Somersham. His relatives had previously characterized him as a “loving” father, son, brother, and uncle. In a statement, they expressed, “His passing has left a void in our family and our hearts that can never be filled.” They added, “He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.” Suffolk news updates are available via BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
