Driver Fatally Injured in Crash During Police Pursuit

An individual has died following a vehicle collision that occurred during a police pursuit in the vicinity of Wakefield. West Yorkshire Police reported that law enforcement officers were pursuing the driver on Birkwood Road, close to Altofts, around 01:30 GMT on Wednesday when the vehicle struck a fence. The man, identified as being in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the location of the incident. Authorities stated that a male passenger, in his 30s, was hospitalized for injuries sustained and has subsequently been arrested. The police force indicated that it has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct concerning this event. According to police, the vehicle had been proceeding along Ferry Lane in the direction of Altofts after it failed to stop when requested. Law enforcement officials appealed to anyone possessing information or dashcam footage pertaining to the collision to make contact.
