Proposals for a drive-through restaurant and takeaway facility at a retail park in Dumfries are anticipated to receive approval. This establishment is planned for construction on an unoccupied parcel of land located within the Peel Centre site, situated on Lockerbie Road in the town. According to a report presented to councillors, while a specific tenant has not yet been named, there is existing market interest in this type of development. Despite objections concerning potential traffic impact and disruption for local residents, planning officials have advised that the plans be approved. The Peel Centre is situated on the periphery of Dumfries, adjacent to a Tesco supermarket. Historically, the centre has exclusively featured retail units; however, approval was recently granted for a drive-through coffee shop on a section of the site. Consequently, a second food service establishment may now be forthcoming. Although some local residents have formally opposed the proposals, they are nevertheless being put forward for approval. A planning report determined that the proposed development would complement the current retail park and could proceed, provided certain conditions are met.
