The chief executive of the Port of Dover has stated that the conceptual work for the area’s regeneration has been finished, though specific details of the plans, which may include new housing, are still awaiting finalization. Doug Bannister discussed these proposals with BBC Radio Kent, explaining that they are being compiled as part of the long-term Port of Dover 2050 project. This initiative will involve the revitalization of the port’s Eastern Docks, Western Docks, and waterfront areas. Mr. Bannister noted that the port facilitates £144bn of trade each year. Mr. Bannister indicated that new external investment would be sought for the redevelopment efforts. Mr. Bannister said: “What we need to do is go through the work to come up with a plan.” Proposals for the waterfront, encompassing De Bradelei Wharf, could feature shops, offices, and new homes, although Mr. Bannister clarified that there is no specific detail yet regarding the number of homes that might be included. Emphasizing that nothing had been finalized with plans, he told BBC Radio Kent’s Dominic King: “Could we put a casino there? Probably. Would we? Probably not.” He also stated that “considerable time” had been dedicated to minimizing the port’s impact on the town, particularly concerning traffic movement through it.
