Significant crowds are anticipated to gather along the seafront of the Isle of Man’s capital for a Bonfire Night fireworks show, which will feature “music from movies.” Douglas Council is scheduled to commence the event at 19:00 GMT, with festivities on Harris Promenade centered near the war memorial. Mayor Natalie Byron-Teare commented that the annual spectacle unites “a huge majority of the community together” within the city. This year, the fireworks will once again be launched from the beach, a change from 2023 when they were deployed from a barge in the bay due to complications arising from tide times. Byron-Teare stated: “Douglas is a huge bay, and with the tides the barge looked very far out in the bay, and so the display looked a lot smaller than we’d hoped.“So this year’s it’s beach-based again, which hopefully will have a much better impact for those viewing,” she further explained. Councillor Byron-Teare elaborated that the accompanying music, drawn from film themes, was selected because it “hopefully will be enjoyed by everybody.” “Last year the music was a bit more modern, aimed maybe more towards the younger generation, but this year we feel that the movie theme covers everybody,” she noted. The proceedings will commence with the traditional Best Guy effigy competition, taking place by the war memorial from 18:45. Douglas Council has requested that attendees refrain from bringing pets or personal fireworks, including sparklers, to the display. The public has also been advised to avoid the areas of Douglas and Onchan Head around the event’s scheduled time due to potential traffic congestion issues.
