Abermule, a village located in Powys, was the site of an extensive rescue operation after a donkey named Nikki descended 20m (65ft) down a slope adjacent to a river. The rescue effort involved approximately 15 firefighters and a veterinarian. They utilized an inflatable sled to guide Nikki across the water and safely return her to her field, where her companion awaited. Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service reported receiving the call just before 09:00 GMT on Sunday, indicating that the entire operation lasted approximately three hours. Nikki was sedated prior to being moved back to secure ground. Subsequent photographs suggested the donkey had recovered well from the incident. Experts from animal and water rescue teams participated alongside fire service crews dispatched from Montgomery, Newtown, Welshpool, and Rhayader.
