A doner kebab manufacturing company, which was compelled to cease operations after municipal health officials discovered a deceased rodent and avian droppings at its premises, has recommenced business following subsequent evaluations. In March, Kirklees Council’s environmental health team conducted a visit to Halal Catering Supplies Ltd, situated at Beckside Trading Estate in Batley. This firm incurred a fine of nearly £8,000 for violations of food hygiene regulations. Separately, Halal Catering Supplies Batley Ltd, which operated an adjacent facility, was mandated to pay nearly £20,000 for its own food hygiene infractions. A council spokesperson confirmed that modifications had been implemented at the establishment, and inspectors were now content that it was secure to resume operations. The council indicated that these enhancements encompassed a change in company director and the appointment of a qualified individual to supervise food production. Councillor Munir Ahmed, the cabinet member for the environment, stated that the authority had assisted the business in complying with the pertinent food hygiene legislation. He affirmed, “Only when officers were completely satisfied that this business had reached the required safe standard of operation was it allowed to begin trading again.” During their initial inspection in March, officers observed substandard cleanliness, specifically noting the presence of rat droppings and flies adhered to a sticky board located beneath a pallet of beverages. Within the facility designated for kebab manufacturing, a pallet of chicken was discovered that had exceeded its use-by date by over a year, lacking any traceable information regarding its origin. On October 24, at Kirklees Magistrates Court, Halal Catering Supplies BATLEY Ltd admitted guilt to eight charges, while Halal Catering Supplies Ltd pleaded guilty to 19 charges, all related to food hygiene legislation. The Local Democracy Reporting Service reported that the company has regained full authorization to store animal-derived products and recently received conditional approval to recommence the production of doner kebabs.
