A primary educator based in Doncaster has received the Gold Teacher of the Year in a Primary School award. Natalie Poornomansy, employed at Outwood Primary Academy Woodlands, learned of her recognition on Monday during the BBC’s One Show, with the announcement delivered by her preferred pop artist, Duncan James from the band Blue. Chosen from thousands of candidates in the Pearson National Teaching Awards, her outstanding impact on both pupils and the broader community has been acknowledged. Ms Poornomansy commented: “I think anyone that works in teaching knows that sometimes it feels not very appreciated, so it’s nice to know that people notice.” This accolade recognizes educators who demonstrate extraordinary effort to create a substantial positive influence on the lives of individuals in their vicinity. Ms Poornomansy received commendation for her efforts in establishing the school’s Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision, which involved initiatives such as instructing sign language alongside songs during music lessons. Furthermore, she was praised for cultivating a classroom atmosphere that motivated children to achieve success. The One Show collaborated with the school to arrange a Woodland’s Got Talent event, and it was during this performance that guest judge Duncan James unexpectedly informed her of her victory. Sharon Hague, who serves as the managing director of school assessment & qualifications at Pearson UK, stated: “It is an honour and privilege to be able to recognise and celebrate all of those who work in education.” She affirmed that the influence educators have on students is “undeniable” and extended congratulations for the “dedication that educators show each day”. The remaining award recipients are scheduled to be revealed throughout the week on The One Show, preceding an awards ceremony planned for the weekend.
