A popular leisure pool complex is scheduled for immediate closure to undergo a refurbishment project, which is expected to take at least a year to complete. The Lagoons at Doncaster Dome were originally slated to shut down in 2025 for the commencement of the planned work, but this date has now been moved forward. Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust announced that “accelerating enabling works” for the £14.4 million project have been carried out in recent days. Other sections of The Dome, including the Ice Caps skating rink and the Fitness Village gym, will remain operational. Chief executive Michael Hart commented: “While we are sorry that the Lagoons will be closed, we are really excited to see this much-needed refurbishment project get underway.” He further noted that leisure swimming opportunities will be provided at other pool venues across the city, with sessions being programmed to minimise disruption. Customers holding bookings for the Lagoons are eligible for a refund or can transfer their booking to an alternative activity or venue. The Lagoons complex features several indoor pools, an outdoor pool, and flumes. The sports and leisure centre first opened in 1989 and was granted a Grade II listing in 2023.
