Food designated for veterans has been stolen from a facility used by young cadets, an incident described as “sickening” by one parent. Cleveland Police confirmed that the Guisborough detachment of Cleveland Cadets experienced a break-in earlier this week, during which the food and IT equipment were stolen. Lesley Hakin, mother of 13-year-old Army cadet Harry, stated: “It’s sickening, there is so much crime happening in Guisborough at the minute – it’s terrible.” Ms. Hakin further noted that the detachment sustained damage and was left in a “really bad state.” According to Ms. Hakin, the food donations, gathered by the children for veterans through a charity event, were stolen, along with selection boxes that adults had purchased for the children. To assist the cadets in replacing the stolen goods and covering repair expenses, she initiated a fundraising page, which has already accumulated over £1,400. She commented: “I’ve been overwhelmed by what the community have put together – it’s so lovely.” She also added: “Because we’ve got so many problems at the moment with vandalism in the community from a lot of the teenagers, [the cadets] is a good place for the kids to go for them to be able to socialise and learn skills and that’s why a lot of the community have come together to help them out.” Cleveland Police reported that the break-in occurred at the cadets’ Park Lane building sometime between Tuesday and Thursday evening. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information or footage, including from CCTV or dashcam sources, to contact them.
