An individual has received a 15-year prohibition on owning animals and a suspended prison term following his capture on video assaulting his dog. Daniel Neil Robertson, a resident of Birmingham, admitted guilt to two charges of inflicting needless suffering upon a protected animal. The RSPCA initiated legal proceedings against Robertson concerning two video recordings depicting the 44-year-old striking his Staffordshire bull terrier, Reggie. “There is never an excuse for treating an animal in this way,” stated RSPCA inspector Ben Jones in a press release from the organization. According to the RSPCA, one of the video segments depicted Robertson tossing Reggie onto the ground, while the other showed him striking the dog as it attempted to flee. Robertson’s sentencing occurred at Birmingham Magistrates Court earlier this month, pertaining to two separate incidents that transpired in March and April. In addition to the 15-year prohibition, he received an eight-month custodial sentence, which was suspended for 12 months. The RSPCA confirmed that Reggie had been transferred into its custody.
