Police in Hull have confirmed the death of a dog following an attack by an “XL bully type” dog. Officers stated that the incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 10:30 GMT on Douglas Road, while the dog was being walked. The injured animal was transported to a nearby veterinary clinic, where it later succumbed to its injuries. Additionally, two individuals who attempted to intervene were bitten and required hospital treatment for their wounds. Humberside Police announced that the dog responsible for the attack has been seized as part of their ongoing inquiries. The force detailed that one person sustained bite wounds to their nose and hand, while the other person suffered injuries to their hand. Chief Inspector Rob Danby commented: “I understand this is a distressing incident for the owners of the dog who sadly didn’t survive the attack, and we are working closely with them to understand the circumstances around the incident.” An XL bully is identified as the largest variety of American bully dog. Since February 1, it has been a criminal offence to own or possess an XL bully in England and Wales unless the dog holds an exemption.
