The chairman of a football club that was “on the brink of folding” has announced a documentary will chronicle its “highs and lows.” West Allotment Celtic FC, based in Forest Hall, North Tyneside, had been experiencing difficulties due to low attendances and the withdrawal of its primary sponsor. The Northern League imposed a two-week suspension of fixtures on the club in November, allowing time to devise a rescue strategy. Chairman David Dodds stated that the club has since resumed playing matches following a financial injection from local business people. He added that reports of the club’s financial difficulties prompted several individuals, including many young people, to join its board. Dodds confirmed, “They’re doing a behind-the-scenes documentary on this season which will document…the highs and lows.” He further explained that the documentary “will show people what really running a non-league club involves and how much work goes into it from volunteers.” Dodds also mentioned that while the club possesses sufficient funds for the current season, it will need to explore new operational models for the future. Dodds noted that many non-league clubs have historically depended on gate receipts and “one or two sponsors.” He emphasized, “You need to look at more revenue streams.” The chairman indicated that the club intends to disclose additional plans regarding this matter “in the coming weeks.”
