An old public toilet structure situated in a Leicestershire town centre is slated for conversion into office spaces. This building, located in Coalville’s Memorial Square, has remained vacant for over ten years since its closure. North West Leicestershire District Council is spearheading these initiatives, which involve renovating the building’s interior for its new purpose as office accommodation. The council has indicated that construction is set to commence prior to Christmas and is projected to conclude in approximately four months. The project scope includes replacing the roof, restoring the building’s historical elements, and establishing two distinct office units complete with shared kitchen and bathroom amenities. Merisons, a company based in Coalville, will execute the construction. The undertaking is financed by a £350,000 UK Shared Prosperity grant provided by the government. The council anticipates that these spaces will be available for lease under “flexible terms” and projects that the property will generate an additional yearly income of up to £10,000. Richard Blunt, the council leader, stated: “With Coalville being one of our priorities as a council, we’re putting every effort into regenerating the town, bit by bit, and this is one more piece in the Coalville regeneration puzzle.” He added, “The former public toilets building is very ornate and speaks to Coalville’s heritage. The work will bring the building back into use and meet the specification of the UKSPF in terms of supporting local businesses.”
