A local museum is scheduled for “urgent” renovation activities. Repairs will be carried out at Diss Museum in the Market Place following the approval by South Norfolk Council of plans to substitute its wooden columns. This Grade II-listed structure originates from the early 19th Century and formerly accommodated a butcher shop and a florist. The building’s seven pillars have undergone numerous repairs throughout the years but now necessitate complete replacement because of their deteriorated state. The Local Democracy Reporting Service reports that the edifice, locally referred to as The Shambles, has served as the location for Diss Museum since 1993, showcasing diverse exhibits on the town’s and region’s history. Richard Peaty, a Diss Town Council member, stated that only one of the pillars was in “urgent need” of replacement, yet he requested authorization from South Norfolk Council to replace all seven when their condition warrants it. The request received approval earlier this month, stipulating that any work must commence within a three-year timeframe. For updates on Norfolk news, follow BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
