A new digital hub, designed to familiarize educators with cutting-edge technologies and foster immersive learning environments, has commenced operations. Tresham College in Kettering, Northamptonshire, officially inaugurated its Digital Innovation Hub during the current week. This facility is equipped with virtual reality (VR) stations, augmented reality (AR) equipment, 3D printing machinery, robots, and interactive displays. Yiannis Koursis, chief executive of The Bedford College Group, stated that the hub would provide teachers with a “safe space” to acquire proficiency in the newest technologies. He added, “Teachers can experiment and learn different technologies to enhance the way we teach students.” Koursis further elaborated, “It’s things like being able to use VR and AR to look into the heart and how the heart is working, so it’s really exciting.” Funded by college reserves, the hub will be overseen by Mark Tinney, who is tasked with conducting workshops and sessions to demonstrate the application of these technologies in educational settings. Mr Tinney remarked, “One of the problems that a lot of schools and colleges have is spending a lot of money on buying equipment and [then] getting teachers to use it, and it having an impact on teaching.” He emphasized, “Training them on how to use it isn’t enough; we’ve got to follow that through, and that’s what this space is intended to do.” The innovation center was developed through a collaboration with Cisco, a company that provides IT and consulting services.
