The initial vessel designated to deliver passenger and freight services for Jersey has been confirmed by the island’s recently appointed ferry operator. Danish firm DFDS was selected to manage Jersey’s maritime connections, marking the conclusion of Condor Ferries’ 60-year history of providing ferry services to the island. DFDS has verified that the Stena Vinga is scheduled to commence operations on the Jersey-Portsmouth route starting March 28. Chris Parker, DFDS’s route director for Jersey, stated: “We look forward to welcoming passengers aboard and providing them with a comfortable travel experience and meeting the diverse needs of the island.” The company indicated that this 125-meter (410-foot) RoPax vessel possesses the capacity to transport as many as 400 passengers and 200 vehicles. It further mentioned that during peak season, the service would feature five weekly rotations, with departures from Jersey in the evening and from Portsmouth in the morning. “The vessel was built in 2005 and is equipped with 40 cabins, a restaurant, a duty-free shop, a cinema and a recliner lounge,” the company added. DFDS also announced its intention to deploy one RoRo (roll on-roll off) vessel and two high-speed craft as part of the Jersey ferry service. During the peak season, DFDS’s high-speed craft are slated to serve the Jersey-St Malo route, offering up to 11 rotations weekly, and the Jersey-Poole route, with as many as five rotations per week. Mr Parker stated: “To accommodate the high demand in the peak season, the frequency of services will be increased to ensure that our passengers have more options and flexibility when planning their travels.” The publication of the summer timetable is anticipated by Friday.
