A complimentary soft drinks initiative for designated drivers has been reintroduced across south Wales. This program, managed by South Wales Police, is set to recommence during the Christmas season and will continue through early January. Over 80 establishments have already enrolled in the scheme, comprising 29 in Neath Port Talbot, 24 in Swansea, 23 in Cardiff, seven in the Vale of Glamorgan, and one in Rhondda Cynon Taf. Initially launched in Wales in 2022, the initiative seeks to encourage responsible alcohol consumption and enhance road safety. Patrons who identify themselves to bar personnel as the designated driver, or “DES”, will be provided with a wristband, granting them access to complimentary draught soft drinks or squash. Concurrently, an analogous program has been reinstated across Devon and Cornwall for the festive season.
