A series of major concerts at Derby’s Markeaton Park is set to proceed after a licensing hearing was convened due to a solitary noise objection. Artists including Jess Glynne and Faithless are scheduled to perform at Derby Summer Sessions 2025 in July, with an anticipated audience of up to 10,000 people. However, a local resident formally submitted an objection, advocating for the music events to conclude at 8pm instead of 11pm. Councillors on Derby City Council’s licensing committee subsequently granted a licence to Live Nation (Music) UK Ltd, subject to specific conditions. In a written objection presented to the council, the resident stated: “I live 10 to 15 minutes away from the park, and during the summer the noise from the park carried considerably. “The noise is very loud (louder than I would play music in my own house) and to have it until 11pm is too late (bearing in mind construction noise needs to be ended by 6pm).”I would like the council to consider declining the licence completely or, if the licence is granted, to have that end at a suitable time (e.g. 8pm) so as to avoid disturbing local residents’ sleep/evening wind-down time.” According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the hearing revealed that the objector attempted to contact a dedicated event telephone number during last year’s concerts, but the call was not answered. Organisers Live Nation (Music) UK Ltd affirmed their commitment to ensuring the telephone hotline would be staffed continuously throughout licensable hours, a requirement that forms part of the newly imposed licensing conditions.
