Derby City Council has implemented restrictions on public access to its headquarters after “threats” were communicated to staff members via telephone. The authority confirmed it notified police on Monday, following reports of “malicious communications” directed at its employees. As a result, The Council House will now operate on an appointment-only basis until further notice. Derbyshire Police stated that the report was received just before 12:10 GMT on Monday, and investigations into the circumstances of the calls are currently ongoing. The police force also noted that security staff had locked the building’s doors for a brief period as a precautionary measure. A spokesperson for the city council issued a statement, saying: “The safety of our staff and residents is our top priority and we take threats of this nature very seriously.” The spokesperson added, “As a precaution, our Council House will be working to an appointment-only basis until further notice.” The authority additionally offered an apology for any inconvenience caused.
