The redevelopment plans for several sites located at the Derbion shopping centre have undergone revisions. Derbion announced that the updated proposals for the Eagle Market now feature 500 residential units, a decrease from the 875 homes outlined in an earlier plan. This change follows a revision of the site’s layout, which includes a reduction in the height of the planned structures. Concurrently, the adjacent Riverside car park site, which ceased operations last year, is slated for demolition to accommodate approximately 380 new residences, along with the creation of new public areas and pedestrian-friendly streets, according to the current plans. The proposed revitalization plans for the Eagle Quarter, Riverside Quarter, and Bradshaw Way areas, all situated within Derbion, are scheduled for public display at an exhibition within the shopping centre on Thursday and Friday. Planning approval has already been secured for the Eastern Gateway project, which constitutes the initial phase of the envisioned Eagle Quarter development. Construction efforts are currently in progress to establish a new public square within this area. In addition to the 500 new homes, the Eagle Market site, located off East Street at Derbion’s eastern entrance, is planned to incorporate “commercial uses” and feature “green, accessible routes and new public spaces,” as stated by Derbion. Furthermore, the Eagle Quarter proposals now involve the retention of Derby Theatre, which was initially slated for demolition, with the aim of establishing a “green cultural square at the heart of the project.” Meanwhile, the plans for the Bradshaw Way Retail Park site encompass approximately 480 new residential units and commercial premises, integrated within landscaped public zones. Beth McDonald, Derbion’s managing director, commented: “Our position in the heart of Derby means that we have an important opportunity to evolve and develop our wider footprint to improve the vitality of the city centre and increase connectivity.” She added that “The masterplan proposals are a framework for development over the next 10 years and beyond to revitalise three key sites that will support the wider regeneration of Derby and attract and engage more people to visit and explore the city.” The exhibition showcasing these proposals will be accessible on Level 2 of Derbion, situated opposite Zara, operating on Thursday from 11:00 to 16:00 and on Friday from 11:00 to 15:00. Earlier this year, prior plans to establish an indoor go-karting track and amusement area within the former Eagle Market premises were abandoned.
