A defibrillator has been placed at East Park Library in Wolverhampton, dedicated to the memory of Lauren Smith, who tragically died from a fatal heart attack. Ms. Smith was 29 years old when she passed away in January 2023, and her family expressed a strong desire to establish a lasting legacy for her. The installation of this vital life-saving equipment was accomplished with the support of the city’s public health team and Councillor Lovinyer Daley. Emma Carrington, Lauren’s mother, conveyed her appreciation to the council for its “help in keeping Lauren’s memory alive,” further stating, “We hope that the defibrillator will prevent another family from having to go through what we are.” Positioned beside the defibrillator is a plaque inscribed with the words: “Sending kisses to the sky to the most amazing mommy and daughter, taken from us far too soon.” The plaque additionally features the phrase: “Heaven has gained the most beautiful angel. Forever in our hearts.” The concept for the defibrillator’s installation was brought to Councillor Daley by Lauren’s family. Councillor Daley remarked, “I have known Lauren’s family for many years, and I was truly shocked and saddened to hear of her passing as she was so young.” She also commented that the plaque would serve as “a permanent legacy for Lauren, her immediate family and friends, and also her little daughter, ensuring that she will never be forgotten.”
