A Springer Spaniel named Puffin, which was reported stolen and had been missing for more than a month, has been discovered deceased. Anne-Marie Millard, 57, who operates a kennel in Uggeshall, Suffolk, initially reported her daughter’s four-year-old pet missing on September 22. Ms. Millard had suspected the dog was stolen and verified on Wednesday that Puffin’s body had been located. In a social media statement, Ms. Millard expressed that despite feeling the search was “getting somewhere, we have been hit with the cruellest blow.” She added, “I can’t find the words to describe how we as a family are feeling.” Ms. Millard also mentioned, “This includes my wonderful staff, especially Louise who took over yesterday in my place as I just couldn’t function.” Ms. Millard had previously stated that Puffin disappeared while playing outdoors with her puppies. These puppies have since departed Britain to begin training for their future roles as search and rescue dogs with the United Nations. The kennel proprietor suspected Puffin’s disappearance occurred approximately when a delivery van dropped off a parcel, and law enforcement authorities were notified. The family had been actively searching for Puffin, employing drones in their efforts. Ms. Millard conveyed that they were “overwhelmed by how wonderful the people of not just my Spaniel world but the general public of Suffolk” had been. She concluded her statement by saying, “Their kindness and help have been immense and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.” Suffolk Police has been contacted for a statement regarding the matter.
