A well-known Danish Christmas market is scheduled to reopen, offering an expanded selection of goods, having resolved previous supply chain difficulties. The Danish Church in Hull collaborated with its affiliated church in London to procure items from Denmark for its upcoming sale. Organizers indicated that following Brexit, they encountered challenges related to the expenses and bureaucratic processes associated with importing merchandise for the event. The market is scheduled to be held at the Danish Church on Osborne Street, operating from 10:00 to 16:00 GMT on Saturday. As the oldest overseas Danish Church, the Hull institution has hosted a volunteer-operated Christmas market since 1966, drawing hundreds of attendees. Charlotte Theill, the church’s manager, commented: “It’s really, really special. Some people have been part of this since the 60s and it’s a huge, huge thing in their year. This is really the highlight.” To facilitate the importation of inventory for their event, they collaborated with the Danish Church in London, which was already procuring items from Denmark for its own Christmas market. Ms Theill stated: “We were able sort to tag on to that order. So that made it easier this year for us because it’s a lot of paperwork and hassle.” The market will feature a café, alongside gift stalls and customary Danish and Scandinavian delicacies. “There’s normally a queue around the block. It’s packed. It’s very busy. There’s a buzz. Obviously, people coming to get the things they’ve been so anticipating.” Ms Theill also mentioned: “Now we’ve got some Danish sausages coming that we’ve been [previously] unable to get them into the country because of Brexit rules.” Admission to the market is £2, which includes Danish mulled wine and festive biscuits, subject to availability. Additionally, market stalls will be present at the church on 7 December.
