A cargo vessel, which sustained damage and is transporting potentially explosive fertiliser, has arrived at a port in the United Kingdom. The MV Ruby’s consignment, consisting of 20,000 tonnes of ammonium nitrate, is scheduled for transfer to a different ship at Great Yarmouth, located in Norfolk. Prior to its arrival, the ship was anchored approximately 11 miles (17km) off the Margate coast in Kent. It had been awaiting repairs to its hull and propeller, which incurred damage during adverse weather conditions last month. Serenity Ship Management, the company responsible for the vessel’s operation, stated that the cargo presented “no risk to the surrounding area in its present state.” Port director Richard Goffin stated: “The Port of Great Yarmouth has the capability to handle hazardous materials and the discharge and transhipment of such materials and cargo is common practice across our port group.” He added that their team is proficient in implementing rigorous safety protocols and strictly adheres to all UK safety regulations and international maritime standards. Goffin concluded by saying their role is to ensure the MV Ruby can safely discharge its cargo and proceed with its onward journey. The vessel, registered in Malta, commenced its voyage from the northern Russian port of Kandalaksha during July. Sir Roger Gale, the Member of Parliament for Herne Bay and Sandwich in Kent, indicated that the cargo was initially intended for Africa. Following its removal, the ship is slated for repairs. The Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service confirmed its awareness of the vessel and reported that it had been collaborating with various partners over recent days to assess any potential risks. A spokesperson for the service further stated: “We continue to work closely with the port authority.” The Health and Safety Executive reported that it had provided guidance to the port and was “providing technical support to other government departments in relation to their regulatory roles.” Post navigation The Resurgence of Vintage Audio Equipment Alchemy Technology Services Confirmed as First Tenant for Londonderry’s Ebrington Plaza
