Daisy Taylor marked her 105th birthday, stating, “I used to do yoga on the floor, but I mainly do it in my chair now.” Ms. Taylor, a native of Stratford, east London, has consistently embraced an active lifestyle. She attributes her longevity and happiness to yoga, daily stretching, and an appreciation for the “little things.” Ms. Taylor believes yoga has enhanced her cognitive abilities, noting that she has become “brainier” as she has aged. Currently residing in a care home in Chelmsford, Essex, Ms. Taylor remains committed to “keep moving,” which she states contributes to her enjoyment of life. She has engaged in yoga practice for the last two years, mentioning that the standing half-moon pose provides a “good stretch.” She explained, “I can do [yoga] on the floor, but I’d need someone to watch me in case I need help getting up.” Longevity appears to be a family trait; her sister, Alice, is 103, and her five other siblings all lived into their nineties. Ms. Taylor shared her perspective: “My secret is when you keep waking up every day, have fun.” She added, “I’m telling my friends and family to exercise, but they won’t do it.” Furthermore, she advised, “I’d tell people to straighten up, move your shoulders round and round – but take it easy to start with.” Born in Leytonstone, east London, in November 1919, Ms. Taylor concluded her schooling at the age of 14. Her career began in machinery, followed by a period in a soap factory, and she later managed a bakery and multiple cafes. At 19, she met her late-husband, Ray, during a social event hosted by the Electric Light Company. The couple had three children, Pat, John, and Jean, along with 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Ms. Taylor expresses that she cherishes her life. She affirmed, “I definitely enjoy my life because it’s a nice life at the moment.”
