Cumberland Council, currently developing a new parking strategy, is soliciting input from drivers regarding car parks. The council is inviting individuals to participate in a survey about their use of car parks located in Carlisle and Keswick. Cumberland Council aims to gather opinions on the value for money provided by these facilities and potential improvements. Councillor Barbara Cannon stated that the feedback received would assist the local authority in shaping its plans. She remarked, “Car parking is a really important subject for many people; especially for residents, businesses and visitors.” Cumberland Council assumed control of the off-street parking sites in April 2023, as part of a local government reorganisation. Cannon further noted that “well-managed” car parks could contribute to managing traffic in towns and cities, in addition to helping residents with shopping and accessing vital services. She added that they also provided “a proper space for visitors to leave their cars while enjoying what Cumberland has to offer.” The survey is currently open and will close on 31 January. The council indicated its intention to conduct surveys on Cumberland’s other car parks in the future.
