Goalkeeper Craig Gordon acknowledged the validity of public skepticism regarding the Hearts team, stating that it is the players’ responsibility to challenge these doubts. The Tynecastle club, currently at the bottom of the Premiership with a record of one win in eight matches across all competitions, has an opportunity tonight to secure a spot in the Conference League play-offs with a home victory against Moldovan side Petrocub. “We are bottom of the league. They are quite right to start doubting and it’s up to us to come out of the other side of that,” goalkeeper Gordon stated. He continued, “That’s the challenge. We need to start performing. It’s gone on long enough. We need to stop that rot and start winning football matches. This is the next opportunity to do that and we need to take it.” Gordon urged for team unity at Tynecastle as Neil Critchley’s squad aims to achieve post-Christmas European football, a feat not accomplished by the club since 1989. “This is a fantastic opportunity to not only win the game and get to the next round, but also to start getting confidence back ahead of the next few games which is going to be a difficult period to spring that into the league and get some points as well,” he further commented. “So a huge game, we are well aware of that and we need to put in a performance. This is not going to be an easy game at all. We are going to need absolutely everybody – players, coaches, fans – to try and get through to the next round.”
