Raphael Borges Rodrigues, a summer acquisition for the Sky Blues, has returned to action following a prolonged injury absence. The Dutch-born Australia Under-23 international winger, who transferred to Coventry from A-League team Macarthur in May, sustained a thigh injury during his initial pre-season match against Port Vale. On Tuesday afternoon, he was included in the Coventry under-21 squad, playing on the right flank alongside Fabio Tavares, for their game against Barnsley’s under-21s at the Coventry Building Society Arena. Raphael’s attempt to score on his return was thwarted when Barnsley’s goalkeeper saved his powerful long-range shot just after the thirty-minute mark. The 21-year-old was replaced shortly after the hour mark, with the Sky Blues behind 2-0; however, the home team managed to recover and achieve a 2-2 draw thanks to two goals from Joseph McCallum.
