Courtney Winfield-Hill Appointed to England Women’s Coaching Staff for South Africa Tour and Women’s Ashes

Australian-born Courtney Winfield-Hill is set to join England’s coaching staff this winter for their upcoming tour of South Africa and the Women’s Ashes series in Australia. Winfield-Hill previously played rugby league for Leeds Rhinos, having transitioned from cricket, and made her England debut in the sport in 2022. Before her move to the UK, Winfield-Hill competed in domestic cricket in Australia. After relocating, she switched to rugby league, culminating in her representing England at the 2022 Rugby League World Cup. Following her retirement from playing, she transitioned back to cricket in a coaching capacity. Her coaching experience includes roles within England pathways, with Trent Rockets in The Hundred, the Women’s Big Bash, and the Women’s Premier League in India. She is married to England wicketkeeper-batter Lauren Winfield-Hill, whose most recent international appearance was in 2022. Courtney Winfield-Hill stated, “Since working with England teams, I have been made to feel nothing but welcomed and feel the ECB have invested in developing me as a coach.” Winfield-Hill, who assisted England in September during a tour of Ireland by a second-string side for three one-day internationals and two T20s, is currently coaching Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash. Upon the conclusion of that tournament, she will link up with the England squad for the multi-format tour of South Africa, commencing on 24 November, followed by the Women’s Ashes, which is scheduled to begin in January. Jonathan Finch, England director of women’s cricket, commented: “Courtney has played such an important role in developing the up-and-coming players on our international pathway and adds tremendous value in any environment she is part of. “She will bring a different outlook on the game into the coaching team which will ensure the support we provide to players continually moves forward in what will be an exciting period for the senior team.”
