Individuals misusing Blue Badges “should be worried – we are coming for you”, a local official has cautioned. Salford City Council announced its intention to verify that Blue Badges exhibited in vehicles’ windscreens are validly registered and utilized appropriately. The council stated it plans to deploy visible patrols and undercover personnel, alongside other enforcement bodies and intelligence provided by the public. “Those who misuse Blue Badges should be worried,” Councillor Barbara Bentham reiterated, stating: “We are coming for you.” Salford Council further indicated it intends to identify individuals found guilty of improperly using the Blue Badge program, a system established to assist individuals with various disabilities. Ms Bentham noted that enforcement officers are comprehensively trained and cognizant of the reality that “many people who use the badges have hidden disabilities”. She further commented: “Those who have nothing to hide do not need to worry at all as we are not here to target them.” Counterfeit or duplicated badges can be exchanged illegally for as much as £1,000. The Salford Disability Forum expressed approval of the council’s initiative. A representative stated: “It will make a huge difference to the people who really need the scheme as it is an absolute lifeline.” They added: “If those spaces are being taken by people who should not be there, it affects us all.”
