Plans for the construction of a short-term care complex have received approval from a local council, notwithstanding a significant number of objections. West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) granted permission for a two-storey care home, situated on Icknield Drive in Northampton, which is intended to provide 24-hour care for two to three individuals. This decision followed 47 objections from local residents concerning the proposals, who cited parking and road safety issues, alongside worries about the care home’s impact on the community. Conversely, three letters expressing support for the care home were also submitted. Time to Shine, the care provider, indicated that the area is “ideally located” within a quiet community, offering access to public transport for town, close links to schools, and local amenities. According to the application details, one full-time carer would be present on-site at all times, with shift changes scheduled for 9:00 and 20:00. One resident stated: “There is an overwhelming local opposition. Nearly all the cars from two roads go right past this house and parking is often a problem.”How this change of use to a commercial property could possibly be in the best interests of West Hunsbury residents is beyond me.” Another objector articulated that the safety of existing residents “outweighs” the necessity for a care facility catering to “a small number of people”. WNC Highways concluded that the change of use would not have “an undue impact” on the local highway network, as two existing off-street parking spaces were available for staff, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service. Council planning officers ultimately approved the care home plans on 8 November.
