Footpaths across Grimsby’s Corporation Road Bridge are set to close on various days in November. This Grade II-listed bridge has been inaccessible to vehicles since February 2023, undergoing a £5 million restoration project. North East Lincolnshire Council reported that work on the bridge’s decks is continuing, and designs for the lifting span and reinforced concrete deck are nearing completion. To capitalize on anticipated low tides, the council stated that weekend working is necessary, along with footpath closures, to ensure the safety of both the public and the contractors. Opened in 1925, the bridge spans the River Freshney and serves as a primary route into Grimsby town centre. The project was initially expected to take approximately one year. However, in August, the council announced that completion is now not anticipated until next summer, following the discovery that the bridge was in a worse-than-expected condition. The south footway will be closed between 09:00 and 16:00 GMT on specific days. The council further noted that while weekend work is scheduled for November 9, 10, 23, and 24, the footway will remain open on these particular dates. The council emphasized the importance of adhering to the established access restrictions, which have been implemented for safety purposes.
