The leader of Cornwall Council has secured her position after a vote of no confidence concluded in her favor. Opposition councillors initiated the ballot, citing their dissatisfaction with Linda Taylor’s management style and certain policies implemented by the authority. Ms. Taylor rejected these criticisms, defending the performance of her Conservative administration since it assumed power in 2021. During an extraordinary full council meeting, members voted to keep her in the role by a margin of 43 to 32, with five abstentions. The confidence vote was triggered when one-third of the councillors signed a letter expressing their loss of confidence in Mrs. Taylor. They also raised objections to controversial proposals to engage a private operator for the management of the Newquay Airport estate. The motion to remove her was brought forward by Councillor John Conway, who represents Launceston South. Councillor Conway had a disagreement with the leader and resigned from the ruling Conservative group earlier this year. All seats on Cornwall Council are scheduled to be contested in the upcoming local elections in May.
