Police have announced that a convicted paedophile has absconded and failed to attend his sentencing. Hilmi Kisacik was found guilty of sexual offences following communications in April via Facebook Messenger with someone he believed to be a 14-year-old girl. This individual was actually a decoy from an online child activist group, which subsequently visited his residence in Fore Hill, Ely, later that month to confront him. The 44-year-old was convicted and received his sentence in his absence at Cambridge Crown Court, prompting officers to issue a warrant for his arrest. Kisacik had entered a not guilty plea to the charges in May, but subsequently did not attend a preliminary hearing in August. Although he was scheduled to stand trial on Thursday, he was convicted in his absence of two counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and one count of attempting to cause or incite a girl to engage in sexual activity. A custodial sentence of two years and eight months was imposed upon him on Friday. PC Shane O’Brien commented: “Although Kisacik didn’t speak to a real 14-year-old girl, the intent to incite a child to engage in sexually activity was still there.” He added, “Protecting children from paedophiles is a force priority and I would urge anyone who knows of this man’s whereabouts to contact police.” For updates on Cambridgeshire news, follow BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
