A convenience store has been ordered to close by trading standards officers after it was found to be selling illegal tobacco and vapes. La Mirage received a six-week closure notice following a successful application for a court order by the Coventry City Council trading standards department. The authority stated that it had previously issued warnings to the shop, located on Earlsdon Street, but the sale of the illicit products persisted. The establishment is mandated to remain closed until 13 January, and no individual is permitted to enter or stay on the premises during this period. The council indicated that any person found to be in breach of this order could face imprisonment, a fine, or both. It further explained that the sale of counterfeit tobacco and vaping items can negatively impact legitimate businesses and may also pose greater health risks to consumers, as these products frequently contain elevated levels of tar and other toxic chemicals.
