The second stage of a walking and cycling path is scheduled to commence construction in the upcoming year. Currently, work is progressing on the 26-mile (42km) A345 cycleway section within Gloucestershire. Upon its full completion, this route will establish a connection between Cheltenham and Bishop’s Cleeve. The initiative aims to encourage walking and cycling locally, decrease pollution, and contribute to Gloucestershire County Council’s objective of achieving carbon net zero by 2045. The second phase of the project is anticipated to conclude by the end of autumn 2025. According to the council, the initial phase of the route, extending from the Honeybourne Line to Cheltenham Racecourse Roundabout, is expected to be finished by the close of the current year. Montel Civil Engineering Ltd, the appointed contractors, are slated to commence the second phase on 6 January. This work will encompass the stretch from Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Steam Railway Bridge to Bishop’s Cleeve Roundabout. Furthermore, a segment will be built connecting Wellington Road to Central Cross Drive, situated close to Pitville Park in Cheltenham. An informational drop-in session for the public is scheduled to take place at Cheltenham Rugby Tigers Club on 26 November, from 10:00 to 19:00 GMT. This event will provide an opportunity for community members to gather additional details regarding the subsequent stage of the initiative.
