Construction has commenced on an advanced hospital diagnostic centre. The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) has received an allocation exceeding £14 million for this new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC), which will be located at St Margaret’s Hospital in Epping, Essex. This facility is among approximately 30 similar centres across the UK, established with the purpose of relocating diagnostic services from acute hospitals to community-based locations, thereby offering more convenient public access and facilitating earlier diagnoses. According to Michael Meredith, PAHT’s director of strategy and estates, “The CDC will enhance patient experience by enabling our patients to be seen more quickly and closer to their homes, providing modern, integrated, outstanding healthcare to support our community.” The completion of construction is anticipated by December 2025. The facility is set to offer expanded operating hours, two supplementary computerised tomography (CT) scanners, prolonged X-ray service availability, and novel ultrasound apparatus, as stated by a PAHT spokesperson. Furthermore, new cardiology and respiratory equipment will be introduced, and an increased number of phlebotomists will be hired to conduct additional blood tests. Morgan Sindall Construction has been appointed by PAHT as the contractor for the centre’s construction. Ryan Liversage, the area director, commented: “We’re delighted to be getting started on site at the Community Diagnostic Centre at St Margaret’s Hospital.” This represents a significant milestone in the establishment of a facility poised to deliver numerous essential healthcare advantages to the local community.
