Construction has commenced on a new business park located on a brownfield site in Bilston, a project that the Mayor of the West Midlands stated is expected to generate over 300 employment opportunities. Groundbreaking has taken place at Brook Street for the construction of the £12.5m Foundry Business Park, situated on a parcel of land that remained unused for two decades. This 15-acre development is set to provide office units for small and medium-sized businesses, a move that the West Midlands Combined Authority indicated would be “helping to tackle a shortage in the region”. Mayor Richard Parker commented that this investment is anticipated to “strengthen” the local economy and “build a solid foundation for future growth that benefits everyone across the West Midlands”. The establishment of this business park forms a component of the residential phase within Bilston Urban Village. The associated housing estate comprises 78 residences located off Dudley Street and 420 residences off Coseley Road. Councillor Stephen Simkins, leader of the City of Wolverhampton Council, stated that advancing this scheme had represented a “long-term ambition”, and he further expressed that he was “delighted to see works to create new industrial and distribution units that will deliver hundreds of jobs for our residents”.
