Construction has commenced on a replacement for an “outdated” skate park located in a Derbyshire town. High Peak Borough Council has allocated £250,000 for the development of the new Cote Heath skate park in Buxton. The council indicated that the project is anticipated to conclude within approximately six weeks, with the new concrete facility projected to open prior to Christmas. Borough councillor Damien Greenhalgh stated that this initiative will “refresh” the skate park, which he described as having appeared “tired.” The council reported that the design and development process involved collaboration with skate park users, Buxton Junior School, and the broader community. This undertaking is part of a long-term strategy aimed at enhancing the borough’s parks, play areas, and open spaces. Mr. Greenhalgh, who holds the titles of deputy leader of the council and executive councillor for regeneration, tourism, and leisure, informed the BBC that the authority maintains a decade-long strategy for investing in parks. He asserted, “We’ve put our money where our mouth is,” adding, “We asked people what they wanted – people said they wanted an improvement in parks.” He further elaborated, “Austerity meant our public spaces were not at their best, were not what people wanted and actually wellbeing is everybody’s business. “If people are more unwell, that costs more to the NHS and other local government organisations.
