Two street-cleaning vehicles in Devon have been named Binderella and Lightning McClean following a public competition. Torridge District Council initiated the naming contest earlier this year, receiving over 100 submissions. The selection of the winning names for the vehicles was made by the crews, supervisors, and managers within the council’s waste and recycling department. Chris Leather, the council’s lead member for operational services, commented: “The team’s task of selecting the winners was daunting, given the sheer quality and quantity of name submissions.” He further stated: “Thank you to everyone who took the time and effort to take part in the competition. “Congratulations to the winners who can now proudly see their name suggestions emblazoned on the vans for all to see.”” According to the council, Carly Tucker and Freddie Tucker proposed Binderella, while Mr Lavers suggested Lightning McClean. Leather also expressed: “I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the crews for their dedication and commitment to delivering an exceptional service to the residents of Torridge, their hard work and efforts are greatly appreciated.” The council confirmed that the vehicles are operational and based in Holsworthy. It also noted that Binderella and Lightning McClean assist the cleansing team with diverse duties, including cleaning public toilets, emptying litter and dog waste bins, and removing unlawfully discarded waste.
