A social impact company has announced its efforts to combat waste through a service that delivers discounted parcels of surplus food to individuals. Too Good to Go assembles these food parcels at the Ceva Logistics warehouse located in Kettering, Northamptonshire. Customers have the option to order boxes containing excess food from manufacturers, which would otherwise be discarded. Jamie Crummie, 33, a co-founder, characterized the initiative as a “triple win” for consumers, businesses, and the environment. He stated, “About 40% of the food we produce globally gets wasted but we are able to rescue that food.” Stuart Hearn, the business development manager at Ceva logistics, commented: “We receive up to four containers of products per day, and we’ve received in excess of a million items in the first few weeks of operation.” In the UK, the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) estimated that in 2021, the total food waste in the UK amounted to 10.7 million tonnes. WRAP further indicated that this waste was costing UK households hundreds of pounds per year. For updates on Northamptonshire news, information is available on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
