Hundreds of individuals attended to sample a variety of soups contributed by 40 culinary professionals from local hotels, restaurants, and various organizations, aiming to generate funds for a charitable cause. The yearly Shelter Trust Soup Kitchen event took place on Tuesday at the Royal Square, St Helier. Anna Gillham, an attendee at the gathering, expressed her desire to contribute to the “brilliant” homelessness charity. “It helps out the homeless and the poor of Jersey,” she stated. “It supports them when they need it the most.” Participants showed their support for the fundraising initiative despite adverse weather conditions, and Ms Gillham remarked that enduring the rain was worthwhile. Commenting on the soup, she stated: “It has been very hard to choose because I could have had all of them.” Angela Magee, who has dedicated 10 years as a volunteer at the Soup Kitchen, was accompanied by Elaine Ellis to stir the soups prior to their distribution. Ms Magee commented: “The Shelter Trust does such wonderful things.” She continued: “We have to remember most of us are so blessed to have a roof over our heads.” She further remarked: “I appreciate it infinitely more since our house was hit by Storm Ciarán where we lost a third of the roof.” Ms Ellis remarked: “It’s a great cause” and also noted that the stirring “was our upper body workout”. A minimum contribution of £3 was sought, with all proceeds directed towards the Shelter Trust, an organization that provides accommodation and support services for Jersey’s homeless community.
