Local residents are contributing funds and donating items to a family in Kent, who were left homeless and separated after a fire damaged a section of their house. The blaze erupted at Charlotte Brown’s residence in Ash on Sunday morning. Although no injuries were sustained, the family’s belongings, including Christmas gifts, were destroyed in the fire. Ms. Brown is currently staying with her two younger children at her mother’s house in Margate, while her three older children are residing with their uncle. The mother of five recounted, “They [the children] said, ‘We don’t want anything for Christmas; we just all want to be together.'” Ms. Brown stated she became aware of the fire after detecting an odor she perceived as burning paper. She described the event, saying, “[I] tried to get the kids out of the house as quick as I could. The kids were all standing on the roadside in their pyjamas; they didn’t even have a pair of shoes on their feet, and then we just watched everything we had go.” A friend organized a fundraiser to assist the family in securing alternative accommodation in Ramsgate, which has collected almost £4,000 within two days. Among the items donated to the family are clothing, bedding, and Christmas chocolates. Ms. Brown remarked, “It’s just everything you’ve ever owned is gone. Even their baby boxes. I kept everything, and that’s all gone.”
