A poppy display, which had been detached from a town’s market cross, was subsequently discovered discarded in a park. The poppies, affixed to netting, had been positioned on the Butter Cross in Wainfleet All Saints, situated near Skegness, in preparation for Remembrance Sunday. Its removal occurred sometime during Friday evening. Town councillor Wendy Bowkett reported that the display’s removal had provoked strong indignation among local residents. However, she confirmed its recovery on Saturday morning and its subsequent reinstallation. Bowkett characterized the act of taking the display as “very disrespectful”. She further noted that it seemed to have been pulled through leaves and emitted a “horrible” odor. Bowkett urged those accountable for its removal to come forward and offer an apology to the community.
